CAMBRIDGE AUDIO Three decades of Hi-Fi excellence
Welcome to the exciting world of Cambridge Audio. Before you take
a look at our current products, we invite you to travel back through
the last three decades and familiarise yourself with our heritage...
1968
In the psychedelic era of Flower Power and Sergeant Pepper, Cambridge
Audio was formed. The original team of engineers dreamed of producing
hi-fi systems that would out-perform anything else then available.
The 70's
By using recently introduced silicon-based solid-state technology
in original circuit topology, they achieved their ambitions by the
early seventies. Amplifiers like the Cambridge Audio P40, P50 and
P110 set standards of excellence that established the reputation
of the company throughout the decade. The R50 transmission-line
loudspeakers and T 55 Stereo FM tuner made Cambridge Audio one of
the first British hi-fi companies to offer a complete and totally
matched system. The River Mill, a picturesque setting for the original
factory, was typical of the surrounding Cambridgeshire countryside
that was rapidly becoming home to England's high-technology electronics
industry.
The 80's
The early eighties saw the introduction of Compact Disc. Was it
really perfect sound forever? Cambridge Audio boldly rose to the
challenge and produced the world's first two box CD player allowing
near ideal separation of the various functional elements. This finally
showed the world that audiophile quality was indeed possible from
the little silver discs. At the same time, the P range of amplifiers
introduced 'Segmented Passive Equalisation' - revolutionary circuitry
that allowed maximum dynamic range with minimum noise for vinyl
replay. Amplifiers such as the highly successful P35 became the
central building block of many enthusiasts' hi-fi systems, with
many still in use to this day.
The 90's
In the nineties Cambridge Audio explored new areas of technical
expertise and advanced manufacturing methods. The results were the
first real budget-audiophile systems and some of the best sellers
in the UK market with a string of Best Buys, Awards and 5-Star reviews
to their name. The world acclaimed DACMAGIC was the first product
in the company's history to win a much sought after What Hi-Fi?
Award and with the launch of a new product range in 1996 no less
that three Diapason D'Or awards have been won in France in the short
time since then. To help with system building, Cambridge Audio also
introduced a range of high quality interconnect cables and accessories
which, like all other products are now exported to more than 25
countries around the world.
Today, the excitement continues.
Cambridge Audio's dedicated and talented team of digital, analogue
and mechanical engineers are working hard to produce products that
will take the company into its fourth decade of excellence and success.
